Break & Enter

Just one reported break-in at a residential property over the past week, a home under reconstruction in the Eagleridge area.  Thieves entered through an unsecured rear door, stealing tool bags and several small tools.  If you’re conducting renovations that include doors, windows, or any entry points, take steps to ensure the premise remains secure during the renovation.  Also, consider scheduling deliveries of higher value items including appliances for a time after any renovated entry points are re-secured.

We encourage you to regularly take the opportunity to review home & property security.  Is your alarm functioning properly and set anytime you are away? If you have security cameras, are they working, cleared of any landscaping growth or even spider webs that could compromise any images of suspect? Are you familiar with operation of the system and able to provide images to officers promptly if your home is ever targeted?

When leaving your home, double check that all entry points are secured.

Thefts

Two vehicle thefts reported this week, one from the Caulfeild-Woodgreen area, the other from the Ambleside Business District.  Thefts from Auto this week included one theft from an unlocked vehicle and two theft reports involving windows smashed.  We encourage you to avoid leaving any valuables in any unattended vehicle, locked or not.

Fraud

The risks of buying anything advertised through on-line marketplace postings were illustrated again this week.  A resident responded to online marketplace ad offering “new in package” phone.  The victim met suspect in a public place, paid cash, but later found the phone was completely non-functional. Not surprisingly, the seller’s post and social media profile disappeared. The suspect remains unidentified and unreachable.  If you are thinking of meeting someone for an on-line market transaction, consider options like the “Trading Safe Zone” at our headquarters.  You can meet inside the public atrium during office hours Monday-Friday, or on the public entry plaza on 16th Street after hours. The areas are well lit and within continuous view of recorded security cameras.

Anytime you see activity of concern, please don’t hesitate to call West Vancouver Police. Call 604-925-7300 for non-emergency matters.

Call 9-1-1 in an emergency, including events that involve an immediate threat to a person or property or to report a substantive crime in progress.
