Break & Enter

Another pair of circumstances this week illustrating the need for a personal routine that includes regularly checking your security provisions whether you’re at home or away.  The suspect in an Ambleside area home break-in was confirmed by a homeowner reviewing security video after a theft was noted. The suspect had entered the home through unsecured doors in the garage. An investigation is ongoing. Meantime a resident in the Taylor Way/Marine Drive area returned from extended travel to discover a break-in to their suite in a multi-unit residential building.  An unsecured patio door has been identified as the likely entry point.

If you’re going to be away for any length of time, or if you’re remaining at home, please ensure your property is secure, with any alarm or security systems checked and active.

Theft

Theft of Catalytic Converters from vehicles were noted again in the District this past week.  A Cedardale area resident found the catalytic converter on their vehicle partly removed after leaving the vehicle unattended for a short time in the residential driveway during the daytime.  An Ambleside area resident discovered a completed theft of this high value exhaust system component from their vehicle parked overnight on the street.  Catalytic Converter thefts can be accomplished very quickly, typically with either an angle grinder or hand-held reciprocating saw. Please don’t hesitate to report any suspicious persons or activities to West Vancouver Police.

Fraud

Among reported Fraud attempts this week, an intended victim received an un-ordered package with a valueless plastic pendant inside, followed by an email with directions to links to resolve any delivery concerns.  The resident correctly recognized the embedded links in the message as a scam attempt to obtain personal information. Police were contacted for information purposes only. The package was destroyed & email deleted.

Anytime you see activity of concern, please don’t hesitate to call West Vancouver Police. Call 604-925-7300 for non-emergency matters.

Call 9-1-1 in an emergency, including events that involve an immediate threat to a person or property or to report a substantive crime in progress.
