SENIORS

Several times a year, the Community Services Team participates in programs or events to engage with the senior population in West Vancouver. Our aim is to prevent elder abuse and neglect, inform seniors on criminal activity and safeguards to protect against it, and encourage dialogue with our first responders. The following is a snippet of some recent programs and event highlights the Community Services Team has been involved in:

  • West Vancouver Library hosts several informative sessions run by the Community Services Team about scams that target elders, such as the grandparent scam, charity scams and identity theft. The police suggest many protective actions elders can exercise to prevent future frauds from transpiring.
  • Quarterly, a member of the Community Services Team and West Vancouver Fire Department will meet at the West Vancouver Seniors’ Centre to take part in Coffee with a First Responder. We answer questions and discuss resolutions to queries made by our senior citizens.
  • The senior health expo in West Vancouver is aimed at providing exhibits on cognitive, physical, social and financial well being; thus, the Community Services Team is there to teach on safety concerns affecting seniors financial and physical wellness.
  • The Community Services Team also participates in the West Vancouver Seniors’ Outreach Committee where we discuss resources available to seniors in need.

Please contact the Community Services Team at [email protected] if you are interested in proactive crime prevention for seniors.
