Fraud

Several common Fraud types returned to our Crime Alerts this week.

Two separate reports involved suspects falsely claiming to be victim’s adult children and making fraudulent pitches for financial help.  Another report involved a resident lured by an online pitch for a work-from-home opportunity that led to fraudulent use of the victim’s banking information.  A fourth report involved a resident contacted by a suspect claiming to be a government representative, and claiming the victim’s Social Insurance Number had been corrupted and urging the victim to transfer funds to a Crypto Currency account for safekeeping. Check our attached Crime Alerts or Click Here for more information.

Suspicious Persons Report

From calls for service this week, an example of effective response to individuals making unsolicited & suspicious calls at your home. A resident of the Caulfeild area reported two males showing up uninvited at the door who then promptly asked to be let in to “inspect the plumbing”.  The resident correctly denied entry, despite males offering a pamphlet about their purported business.  The males left and the resident found the phone listed on the pamphlet was not a working line. Patrol members were called however males were gone from the area. Unsolicited sales calls with sudden requests by strangers to enter your home, have been associated in the past with suspects attempting to check homes for theft opportunities.

Officers Doing Their Part – Canada Road Safety Week

West Vancouver Police, in partnership with Air One, the Integrated Lower Mainland Traffic Safety Helicopter targeted aggressive, and speeding drivers over the past week. In one day, Air One and WVPD Traffic & Patrol officers issued 68 violation tickets for Speeding & other offences.  15 vehicles were impounded for Excessive Speeding.

Amid Canada Road Safety Week and Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month, our Traffic officers urge you to recognize excessive speed, and aggressive driving pose serious public safety risks. Further collaborations with Air One are planned throughout the spring and summer.

Avoid high risk driving behaviours, including driving while impaired by alcohol, drugs or fatigue, distracted driving, aggressive driving and driving without a seatbelt.
