May Long Is Here – Please Be Safe

The first long weekend of the summer season is upon us. If you are travelling, please first take time to ensure your home is secure before departure. Then, please, travel safely. Our West Vancouver Police Traffic Services Team will have extra officers deployed over the weekend targeting dangerous driving behaviours, in our community and on the Sea-to-Sky highway.
May 12th to 18th marks Canada Road Safety Week in Canada. The Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police urges all drivers and road users to drive safely. Please do not drive impaired by drugs or alcohol. And pleasure take care to ensure your driving is not impaired by fatigue. We want you and your loved one’s home safely.
Youths Gathering – Mischief Calls
Long weekends & the approach of Summer can bring an increase in youths gathering, disturbance & property damage calls, including grad season pranks and other Mischief related calls involving property damage. Unfortunately, our Crime Alerts this week and two weeks ago included vandalism in and around Caulfeild Elementary, nearby tennis courts and a school garden. Also, this week, reports of youths targeting bridge abutments in the Ambleside Park area with graffiti, and a separate report of raw eggs being tossed onto vehicles from a highway pedestrian bridge. Please remain watchful in your neighbourhood and do not hesitate to call police if you note gatherings of concern.
Spoofing Scam Calls Continue
Please remain alert to ongoing scam attempts in which suspects are using call-display number spoofing to falsely indicate you are being called by West Vancouver Police. We continue to have multiple reports daily of residents receiving calls, potential victims are told they are speaking to a WVPD officer and are provided with a fake name and badge number. The scammers are asking for personal information. WVPD will never call to ask you for bail money, bitcoin, gift cards, or money transfers, and we will not ask you to download apps on your phone.
If you are targeted by one of these calls:
- Do not provide scammers with any information. End the call immediately.
- Please Do Not call the ‘spoofed’ number back to inquire about missed calls. This inundates our non-emergency police line, delaying access for those who may need assistance.
