Residential Break-in
A quick response by patrol officers to an audible alarm helped resolve an unwanted intrusion to a residence in the Westcot area. Homeowners were temporarily away. Officers checking the residence found a male sleeping inside. The suspect was arrested without incident. Nothing was found to have been stolen. Charges are being recommended.
Construction Site Break-ins
Crime Alerts this week include another construction site break-in. A residential construction site in the Greenwood/Millstream area of the British Properties was targeted. Thieves appear to have entered through an unsecured gate in site fencing. Tools & equipment were stolen.
Fraud
Fraud suspects are not taking any breaks, but with knowledge you can protect yourself. A local resident learned the hard way that unsolicited sales pitches need to be carefully considered. The resident was contacted by suspect posing a solicitor for cellular provider. The victim was told a high value, new model phone could be given for free, in exchange for another phone. The victim followed instructions to buy and activate a cellphone on another network then sent it to an out of province address. No phone was ever received in return, and the victim has now been receiving bills of several thousands of dollars in roaming charges as the phone they sent to the suspect is being used overseas. The familiar adage, if it sounds too good to be true, it most probably is.
Seeking Assistance To Resolve Long Standing Case

From our Communications Team this week, a renewed request for assistance in the 1999 discovery of a deceased man on Black Mountain in Cypress Provincial Park. Investigators have shared a newly created composite photograph hoping to generate additional information. The body of an adult male was discovered in a green tent southeast of Eagle Lake in Cypress Park in May of 1999. Evidence at the time indicated the man was living at the site and likely died sometime in 1998. He was approximately 5’6”, 150 lbs, with short grey hair and distinctive teeth, and estimated to be between 40 and 70 years old.
