Residential Break-ins

More residential break-in reports this week involving unnecessary vulnerabilities.

Our Crime Alerts include five break-ins at single family homes in neighbourhoods including Caulfeild/Meadfeild, West Bay, Dundarave, and the St. Andrews and Chartwell areas of the British Properties.  No alarms were triggered in any of the reports, and all involved suspects smashing window or door glass to enter.

Whether you plan to be away for a few hours, weeks, or months, ensure your home alarm is working and properly set when you’re away.  Reduce your risk by regularly reviewing where you might need additional intrusion sensors and what potential entry points could be accessed by a burglar.

Thefts from Auto

Thefts from Auto have increased over the past week.  As of this email, 7 reports have been received from across the District, from Horseshoe Bay to the British Properties and Ambleside.  All have involved thefts from vehicles left unsecured.  Please avoid leaving any valuables in an unattended vehicle, whether it is locked or not.

Suspicious Persons Calls

We appreciate your attention to community safety even if circumstances don’t turn out as suspicious as they first appeared. This past week, officers were called to a multi-unit building in the Horseshoe Bay area, after residents noticed unexpected noises from a neighbour’s home, a neighbour they knew had been away. Officers responded promptly and found the neighbour had returned home earlier than expected. We don’t mind getting called to suspicious circumstances, even when proven unfounded.   Being able to promptly confirm safety of a home or area, is better than the risk of delaying a report and potentially allowing suspects more time to complete an offence.

Anytime you see activity of concern, please don’t hesitate to call West Vancouver Police. Call 604-925-7300 for non-emergency matters. Call 9-1-1 in an emergency, including events that involve immediate danger to any person or a substantive crime in progress.  For updated crime alerts anytime click westvanpolice.ca/crime-alerts.
