Residential Break-In
A home in the Fairmile/Highland area was targeted by thieves over the past week. It appears suspects entered the home through an unlocked balcony door. An alarm was triggered and relayed to police dispatch. Officers were on scene within minutes; however, suspects had fled. Investigators found clothing items piled by the door, indicating the alarm may have prompted thieves to flee without stolen items. While the unlocked door appears to have helped provide an easy path in for suspects, a properly functioning alarm likely helped reduce losses for homeowners. An active investigation is continuing.
Fake Bank Staff Phone Fraud
Yet another occurrence of the Fake Bank Staff Fraud. A resident this week received a phone call from a suspect claiming to be staff of their personal bank. The suspect claimed to be checking charges on the resident’s bank card and persuaded the victim to provide additional personal and banking information for confirmation purposes. The resident noticed fraudulent transfers from their accounts soon after. If you receive this kind of call, disconnect the call. If you have concerns about security of your card or accounts, check at your personal bank branch in person or call your bank or financial institution from the phone number printed on your debit or credit card.
