Residential Storage Break-ins
Break-ins targeting single family and multi-unit building storage areas headline our crime alerts this week.
A resident in the Ambleside area found a suspect in their garage, attempting to cut locks off e-bikes. The suspect fled. Nothing was stolen. Two road bikes and a longboard were abandoned at the scene by the fleeing suspect. Investigators are working to identify owners.
Meantime, we encourage residents and property managers of multi-unit residential buildings to check security of storage rooms and lockers. Our Crime Alerts this week include a storage room break-in report and two other break-in attempts, at multi-unit buildings in the Sentinel Hill area. In the first report, multiple storage rooms & lockers were accessed after a suspect pried door handles and cut padlocks.
In a second building, damage consistent with storage room break-in attempts was found, but no entry was gained and nothing was stolen. In a third building, a property representative reviewed surveillance video and found a suspect had entered the building but had left without managing to break into storage lockers there. Active investigations are ongoing.

March Is Fraud Prevention Month

Awareness of prevalent fraud types is your best defence. Fraud offences are persistent and frequently target vulnerable & Elderly persons. Please share Fraud Prevention information we bring you through Block Watch with your family & personal network.
Employment & Cheque Overpayment Scams
Employment & Cheque Overpayment scams are a sadly common fraud tactic to watch for. Victims apply for work with companies advertising online. Victims are then told they’ve been hired, and the new employer says they will send a first cheque. Upon arrival of the cheque, the employer advises it was accidentally filled out for a higher amount and asks for the difference to be sent back. Victims discover after returning money to the suspect that both the job offer and the cheque are fraudulent.
