WVPD Waterfront Crime Reduction Project Leads to Arrests, Seizures

West Vancouver, B.C.The July-October initiative, funded by the Government of B.C.’s SITE Program, enhanced public safety across West Vancouver’s waterfront.

The West Vancouver Waterfront Crime Reduction Project, funded by the Government of B.C.’s SITE Program and led by the West Vancouver Police Department’s Investigative Support Team (IST), targeted high-risk individuals and key locations to enhance public safety and reduce violent crime.

From July to October, this operation concentrated on waterfront areas stretching from the Capilano River, Park Royal, Ambleside and Dundarave to Horseshoe Bay. Uniformed and plain-clothed officers targeted prolific offenders and addressed a wide range of serious incidents, including domestic violence, weapons offences, public disturbances, assaults, drug-related incidents, and mental health crises. The IST generated or assisted with over 165 new files, contributed to 33 arrests, executed warrants, seized drugs and weapons, and recovered approximately $20,000 in property during the operation.

The West Vancouver Waterfront Crime Reduction Project was a successful initiative that reinforced the West Vancouver Police Department’s strategic focus of disrupting offenders and suppressing violence. While this specialized, SITE-funded project has come to a close, officers will continue to maintain a presence in these areas, building relationships with the public, and working to keep West Vancouver beaches and public areas safe and comfortable places for the community to enjoy.
