West Vancouver, B.C. – Video and an updated timeline provides additional context in the search for missing kayaker
The West Vancouver Police Department seeks the public’s assistance as we continue the investigation into a kayaker missing since November 19th, 2024.
Dzmitry (Dima) Aliaksandrau, a 36-year-old man from Maple Ridge, left Batchelor Bay in West Vancouver in a white collapsible kayak at approximately 12:08 p.m. on November 19th, 2024. Cell phone video captured by a witness near the 6200 block of St. George’s Cres shows him heading southbound, near Bird Islet, at approximately 12:45 p.m. In the background of the video is the BC Ferries vessel that was scheduled to leave Departure Bay in Nanaimo at 10:40 a.m. and arrived at Horseshoe Bay at approximately 12:45 p.m.
Dima is 5’ 10”, 170 lbs, and has dark brown hair and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing a black rain jacket, black track pants, and black flip-flops. Please see the attached link for the video and the photo taken just before his departure.
