West Vancouver, B.C. – This strategically deployed trailer will assist police in reducing crime and maintaining safe communities
The West Vancouver Police Department is pleased to continue our commitment to public safety with the deployment of a Public Safety Trailer. This mobile monitoring unit, equipped with cameras, secure recording capabilities, and a sustainable fuel source, will be placed strategically to deter criminal activity and, when necessary, provide video evidence to assist in criminal investigations. Our ability to relocate the Public Safety Trailer in response to evolving circumstances and public feedback will provide an invaluable opportunity to support public safety, prevent crime, and keep West Vancouver a wonderful place to live, work, and play.
Personal Privacy Remains Important to West Van PD
The Public Safety Trailer is an effective tool to deter criminal activity and maintain public safety. It is not used for active surveillance. The trailer cannot record audio, only video, and recordings will not be reviewed or retained unless needed to facilitate a criminal investigation. All data is stored securely and is not shared with outside organizations, agencies, or institutions. Recorded video is only kept for a limited amount of time in accordance with legal statutes and departmental policies. The Public Safety Trailer will be located in plain sight and will be clearly marked as West Vancouver Police Department property. Safety cones and signage will be placed in the area to inform passersby. Additionally, notification of the location of the public safety trailer will be released on our website and distributed through our social media accounts.
Funding of the Public Safety Trailer
Thanks to the efforts of the West Vancouver Police Department’s Investigative Support Team, funding for this project was provided exclusively through Special Investigations and Targeted Enforcement (SITE), an initiative of the Province of B.C. We are grateful for their collaboration in our ongoing commitment to public safety.
“We are pleased to have yet another tool in our toolbox to help keep people safe and reduce crime in our community,” said Sgt. Arman Sardari. “Without this specialized funding from SITE, this project would not have been possible.”
