West Vancouver, B.C. – Tragically, an 18-year-old man from Maple Ridge is confirmed deceased

West Vancouver Police are saddened to confirm that a fatality occurred on Cypress Mountain Resort yesterday evening. 

Emergency Services were called at approximately 7:27 p.m. on Thursday, January 15th, after reports of someone in medical distress after a fall from a chairlift. Sadly, an 18-year-old man from Maple Ridge was pronounced dead at the scene. 

“All available evidence points to this being a tragic accident”, says Suzanne Birch, spokesperson for the West Vancouver Police Department. “There are no obvious indications of technical or mechanical issues with the chairlift. As the death appears to be non-suspicious, the investigation is now with the Coroner’s Office”.

The West Vancouver Police Department extends our deepest condolences to the family and friends of this young man. We acknowledge how upsetting this would have been for everyone in the vicinity.
