West Vancouver – West Vancouver Police are reminding the public to ensure diligence when hiring a care aid. This comes after 51-year-old Rubina Walji, of Surrey, was charged with breaching her conditions not engage in work as a caregiver.
Ms Walji was involved in an incident in West Vancouver on August 8th, 2022, in which she was charged with one count of Assault and one count of being in a dwelling-house without lawful excuse. It is alleged that Walji, while caring for an 81-year-old female in her apartment, became intoxicated, refused to leave and assaulted the elderly woman in her care. Ms Walji was released with conditions that included not to engage in work as a caregiver without the permission of the court.
Ms Walji was subsequently arrested by Langly RCMP on October 5th, 2023. It is alleged that Ms Walji was engaging in employment as a care aid to a 77-year-old female, when she became intoxicated and refused to leave the residence. As a result of this incident, Ms Walji has been charged with one count of breaching her release order and one count of being in a dwelling-house without lawful excuse.
“It is frustrating to see this accused continue to work with and victimize this vulnerable group” said Sgt Mark McLean “A simple Police Information Check can prevent offenders from working with our loved ones.”
