Residential Break-ins

Ensuring your home alarm is working properly and set when you’re away from home cannot guarantee your residence will never be targeted for a break-in, but it can reduce your risk of loss. That lesson was emphasized by two different break-in related reports this past week.  Residents of a home in the Westhill area of the British Properties returned from an evening out to discover an upper floor glass patio door shattered. Inside they found thieves had stolen cash, jewelry, and designer handbags. The home has an alarm system that had not been set when residents went out for the evening.

Compare that with a suspect attempting to pry a basement door on a home in the West Bay area. The action triggered the home alarm & the suspect fled without entering the home.  Active investigations continue in both matters.  In the unsuccessful break-in attempt, investigators may be assisted further as the alarm system sensors also triggered activation of the home’s video surveillance system.

Halloween

We wish a safe & fun Halloween to all who celebrate it!

Halloween officially arrives next Friday.  However, the weekend prior often includes many of the disturbance & mischief related behaviours associated with Halloween.  Our patrol teams will be out throughout the community.  Call police if you see any disturbance or property damage in progress. And a reminder to all that, since 2023, consumer use and sale of fireworks has been banned in the District of West Vancouver.

Anytime you see activity of concern, please don’t hesitate to call West Vancouver Police. Call 604-925-7300 for non-emergency matters. Call 9-1-1 in an emergency, including events that involve an immediate threat to a person or property or to report a substantive crime in progress.
