Attempted Break-ins

If a crime is attempted but not completed, it is still important to report it to police. Our Crime Alerts this week include both an attempted Residential Break-in and an attempted commercial Break-in. A resident in the Folkestone area discovered damage to a patio door indicating a suspect trying to force entry.  Meantime, a commercial property in the Eagle Harbour Area found a suspect had attempted unsuccessfully to pry open an exterior key lockbox. Nothing was stolen in either matter, however, we are grateful for the property owners in both matters reporting the circumstances for awareness & follow-up of our Patrol officers.

WVPD e-Bike Training Includes Arrest

Additional officers undergoing training for patrol deployments of WVPD e-Bikes was bad news for a theft suspect this week. Security staff at a building supplies retailer in the Marine Drive/Taylor Way area reported a male leaving the store with stolen items.  Several officers were already in the area conducting training, and very quickly had the suspect on-view & in custody without incident. Once again, this year as Spring heads to summer, watch for more officers patrolling on e-bikes. These bikes are a great tool for patrol, including park areas & during special events, conducting surveillance, and providing community presence & public engagement!

Mail Theft

Three reports of mail theft in our Crime Alerts this week, from homes in the Chartwell, McKechnie Park and Parthenon Park areas.  Please ensure you are promptly clearing your mail on any day that delivery is scheduled.

Thefts from Auto

Leaving items of any value in an unattended vehicle increases your risk of victimization.  Residents in two separate reports returned to their vehicles in retail parking near Marine Drive / Taylor Way to find windows smashed and items stolen from within.

Anytime you see activity of concern, please don’t hesitate to call West Vancouver Police. Call 604-925-7300 for non-emergency matters. Call 9-1-1 in an emergency, including events that involve an immediate threat to a person or property or to report a substantive crime in progress.
