Residential Break-in
A difficult but important reminder this week for a resident in a Taylor Way / Marine Drive area multi-unit building, to confirm your home is secure before leaving. The resident departed for errands, accidentally leaving the suite door unlocked. Upon return, they discovered several rooms in the suite had been rummaged, with jewelry, a camera and personal computers among the items stolen.
Safety During Online Marketplace Transactions
If you are planning to buy or sell items in transactions advertised online, please be sure to have a security plan in mind. This is especially important if the transaction involves anyone unknown to you. A resident met up this week with a suspect posing as a prospective buyer of an e-Bike. The suspect requested a short test ride, then took the bike and rode away. The victim began tracking the bike with an online chip as the suspect headed first to North Vancouver, then to Vancouver, where the bike was recovered. The suspect had fled. We recommend ensuring you are given personal identification by any prospective buyer before allowing them to take possession of an item for sale. And you are welcome at anytime to use the Safe Trading Zone at the exterior front entry plaza of our police headquarters as a meeting point for online transactions.
