Next Block Watch Crime Alerts/Coordinator’s Update – December 11th, 2025
Break & Enter
Residents getting to a safe place and calling police helped land a break-in suspect in custody. A suspect entered a Sentinel Hill area home in the early morning hours while residents were inside. Residents moved to safety & called police. Responding officers found & arrested the suspect in the home without incident. Multiple charges are being recommended.
In the West Bay area, a resident noted suspicious males passing through their rear yard and called police. Responding officers checking the area discovered an unreported break-in at a neighbouring home. Suspects had targeted the primary bedroom and a personal safe. While the report did not yet lead to an arrest, officers being called to the area so soon after a break-in can help investigators gather additional information to support the investigation.
Residential Break-ins were also in a Westhill area home & two units in an Ambleside area multi-unit building. In the Westhill area report a resident returned home to discover a living room glass door smashed, with designer bags, jewelry, personal ID, and cash stolen. No alarms were triggered in either the Westhill or Ambleside area break-ins.
Fraud
A caution this week that variations of the ‘Bank Inspector’ Scam continue to surface. In a new report this week, a resident received phone call from suspect claiming to be a police officer. The suspect claimed the victim’s credit cards were compromised. The suspect was allowed to come to the victim’s residence to collect cards.
A second suspect called, advising other bank cards were also compromised & came to collect them. It was only then that the victim realized a fraud was in progress & contacted police. An active investigation is ongoing.
We urge all residents to understand that police will not contact you in this manner regarding any issue with your bank or credit cards. If you are contacted in this way, disconnect the call and contact your bank directly. If any suspect in such a call is asking to attend your home directly, contact police.
Thefts from Auto
A reminder to please take care to avoid leaving items of value in any unattended vehicle. Theft from Auto reports were received since our last update in the Ambleside, Community Centre, Chairlift Road and Sentinel Hill areas of the District.
An Ambleside area theft in progress report relayed immediately to police helped officers quickly find and arrest two suspects. Items linked to the original theft, and two other Theft from Auto reports were recovered.
