WVPD Seeks Witnesses to Dangerous Driving on Sea to Sky Highway

File: 25-11296

West Vancouver, B.C. – the driver was arrested on scene following a multi-agency response

On October 30th, 2025, at approximately 9:04 p.m., a WVPD officer conducting proactive speed enforcement on Highway 1 in West Vancouver recorded a vehicle driving westbound at 194 km/hr. The officer activated his lights and sirens and attempted to pull over the car, a 2005 white Chrysler 300C, but the driver fled police and continued northbound on Highway 99 towards Squamish.  Due to the vehicle’s high speed and concerns for public safety, the WVPD officer did not engage in a pursuit and instead radioed ahead to the BC Highway Patrol and Squamish RCMP.

The white Chrysler was soon observed travelling at a dangerously high rate of speed through Porteau Cove. BC Highway Patrol attempted to intercept the vehicle, but the driver again failed to stop for police. In a continued coordinated response, officers successfully deployed a spike belt approximately one kilometre north of Porteau Cove, bringing the vehicle to a stop.  The driver was arrested for Dangerous Operation of a Vehicle and Flight from Police, and, after being tested for alcohol consumption, was also issued an immediate 24-hour driving prohibition.

The West Vancouver Police Department will be recommending two charges of Flight From Police (Sec 320.17) and one charge of Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle (Sec 320.13 (1)) of the Criminal Code of Canada. In addition, a 10-month roadside driving prohibition has been ordered by Roadsafety BC.

“This driver’s conduct displayed a blatant disregard for public safety. West Vancouver Police will continue to work in coordination with Squamish RCMP and the BC Highway Patrol to get these drivers off the road and hold them accountable. We encourage anyone with dashcam footage of this event to contact us”, says Suzanne Birch, spokesperson for the West Vancouver Police Department.

“Drivers need to understand that BC Highway Patrol and West Vancouver Police are in regular radio contact on the Sea to Sky,” says Corporal Michael McLaughlin with BC Highway Patrol. “This is a good example of how we work hand in glove to make sure that Highway #99 is as safe as possible.”

The West Vancouver Police Department is aware of the public concern caused by this incident and assures the community that we take dangerous driving very seriously. We are asking that anyone with relevant dashcam footage or other key information to please contact WVPD at 604-925-7300 and quote file # 25-11296.
