Residential Break-ins
Smashed glass doors with no alarm set led to a very upsetting return home for families after two different break-ins in the Woodward Park area of the British Properties. In one report, a kitchen patio door was smashed to gain access. Several upstairs rooms were rummaged through. In a second report, nearby a ground floor glass door was smashed to gain entry. Jewelry was stolen. Investigations are ongoing.
Fraud Suspects Posing As Police On The Phone
We are reminding residents of persistent scam attempts in which suspects make it appear as though they are calling from the West Vancouver Police non-emergency phone number.
Our Communications staff issued a first advisory about the calls over the summer. Unfortunately, the calls are continuing. Potential victims are told they are speaking to an officer of the West Vancouver Police Department and are provided with a fake name and badge number. Scam suspects ask for personal information, putting people at significant risk of financial or identity fraud. Please remember, WVPD will never ask for bail money, bitcoin, gift cards, or money transfers, and we will not ask you to download apps on your phone. If you are targeted by one of these calls, end the call immediately. Do not provide scammers with any information. Do not call the ‘spoofed’ number back to inquire about missed calls. This inundates the non-emergency police line, delaying access for those who may need assistance. Report attempted fraud to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre, either online or toll free at 1-888-495-8501.

Halloween

It is a day & evening that trick or treating children look forward to all year. Halloween arrives tomorrow evening. West Vancouver Police want everyone’s Halloween to be safe & fun. Please be aware of children walking through residential & other areas of our district Friday evening. We urge drivers to be vigilant for often excited & distracted young pedestrians. If you are taking children out for Halloween, please ensure any costumes worn do not obstruct vision or movement.
Sunset this Halloween is at 5:52pm, meaning darkness will arrive before many people complete their rounds. We recommend including reflective materials in any costume and for you and your children to carry flashlights.
Unfortunately, Halloween can also bring noise, youths gathering and property damage. Please be reminded Consumer use & sale of Fireworks is prohibited in the District of West Vancouver. Police will have extra officers on patrol throughout Halloween night. Please don’t hesitate to call if you see any offences in progress.
Anytime you see activity of concern, please don’t hesitate to call West Vancouver Police. Call 604-925-7300 for non-emergency matters. Call 9-1-1 in an emergency, including events that involve an immediate threat to a person or property or to report a substantive crime in progress.
