West Vancouver Police and RCMP Air Services Collaborate to Counteract Dangerous Driving on Local Highways

Date: 13 May, 2025

West Vancouver, B.C.West Vancouver Police issued 68 traffic tickets with the help of Air 1 helicopter

In response to reckless driving on local highways, West Vancouver Police worked with BC RCMP Air Services, proactively targeting high-risk driving behaviours on the Upper Levels (HWY 1) and the lower Sea to Sky (HWY 99). With the help of helicopter Air 1, WVPD patrol and traffic officers issued a total of 68 tickets, including the following:

33 – Speeding tickets
15 – Excessive Speeding tickets with the vehicle impounded
3 – Fail to Stop for Police
2 – Drive without due care and attention
2 – No driver licence
3 – Follow too closely
5 – Motorcyclists driving contrary to licence restriction
5 – Fail to display a front plate

In addition, Police issued 3 ‘Notice and Orders’ documents, requiring owners to rectify illegal modifications on their motorcycles that produce excessive noise. They also educated drivers on the need to be mindful of the impacts of noise on local residents, cyclists, and other drivers.

As we enter Canada Road Safety Week and Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month, West Vancouver Police are taking the opportunity to reiterate that excessive speeding is a serious public safety risk we won’t ignore. “Speeding isn’t just about getting a ticket- it’s a choice that puts lives at risk”, says Sgt. Stephen France. “Every extra kilometre per hour reduces your reaction time and increases the severity of crashes. We urge drivers to slow down, not just because it’s the law, but because it could save a life—possibly your own.”

Further collaborations with RCMP Air Service’s Air 1 helicopter are planned throughout the spring and summer to deter unsafe driving behaviours and enforce the law.
