Thrive Together: A Community Partnership for Youth Growth

What is the Program?

The Thrive Together: A Community Partnership for Youth Growth program is a new pilot initiative that brings together schools, youth workers, community organizations, law enforcement, and fitness professionals to support youth aged 12–18. The goal is to create a safe, positive, and empowering space where youth can connect, grow, and thrive—physically, emotionally, and socially.

Why This Program?

We know that some youth benefit from extra support and strong connections with caring adults. This program is designed to help students build confidence, develop life skills, strengthen their physical well-being, and feel a greater sense of belonging in school and community.

What Happens Each Week?

Once a week, youth will attend an offsite two-hour session during the school day that includes:

Ice-breaker and team-building activities

  • Fun and active physical literacy programming (led by Game Ready Fitness & Washington Kids Foundation)
  • Opportunities to connect with local police officers in a friendly, supportive way
  • Life skills and mentorship time with youth workers (topics like goal-setting, managing emotions, and communication)
  • Reflection and wrap-up time to build community and share ideas

Key Program Features:

  • Safe, fun, and welcoming environment
  • Transportation provided
  • Free for families
  • Access to additional support such as mentorship, counselling, and even an in-house barber!

Who Is Involved?

  • West Vancouver Schools: Identify and support student participation
  • West Vancouver Youth Outreach Workers: Mentorship, emotional support, and facilitation
  • West Vancouver Police School Liaison Officers Positive engagement and role modeling
  • Community Partners: Physical literacy, athletic development and life skill development

What Families Can Expect:

  • Regular communication from school staff and youth workers
  • Ongoing opportunities for feedback
  • A focus on building strengths, setting goals, and nurturing resilience
