BELONGING & INCLUSIVITY

DEMOGRAPHICS FOR WVPD EMPLOYEES

WVPD is committed to promoting equity, diversity, and inclusion within the organization as well as encouraging acceptance and cultural awareness through community engagement.

In 2023, WVPD created a Belonging and Inclusivity committee.  The goal of the committee continues to be to encourage and facilitate a workplace environment where all individuals are treated fairly and respectfully, have equal access to opportunities and resources, can contribute fully to the organization’s success and where employees feel they are valued.

Some initiatives championed by the Belonging and Inclusivity Committee include (but are not limited to):  the creation of an Equity Diversity and Inclusion library, recommending and championing the creation of a transgender changeroom at WVPD, educating staff about equity deserving groups through an internal newsletter and introducing opportunities for staff to participate in regional and provincial advisory networks focussed on Diversity.

In 2025, WVPD is committed to establishing a “Community Consultative Group” that will play a key role in ensuring that policing strategies reflect the rich diversity of West Vancouver’s immigrant communities, as well as help create a safer and more inclusive environment for residents and visitors.  This group is designed to provide a platform for open dialogue and mutual understanding between new immigrant communities and the West Vancouver Police Department.  The group will assist the police in understanding the unique cultural needs, concerns and challenges of new immigrant groups while also offering opportunities for training and awareness.
