West Vancouver, B.C. – We helpfully earmarked the page of the law they were breaking, section 334 (b), but their apparent disappointment led them to toss it into the bushes
On November 23rd, 2025, WVPD officers responded to the activation of a bait vehicle in West Vancouver. Officers attended the area, located the vehicle and apprehended two suspects. During the arrest, police seized multiple items of suspected stolen property. They also recovered the now very dirty, discarded copy of the Criminal Code.
The West Vancouver Police Department takes a proactive approach to deter theft through the use of bait vehicles and bait property. In partnership with the Integrated Municipal Provincial Auto Crime Team (IMPACT), specially equipped bait vehicles and GPS-tracked property are used in areas with higher rates of theft. These assets use GPS and audio/video technology to enable real-time monitoring and facilitate rapid police response when an offence occurs. Bait vehicles replicate common theft targets and may include remote engine-disabling features to support arrests safely, while bait property is clearly marked and tracked for identification and evidence.
Proactive enforcement strategies, such as bait vehicles, are designed not only to apprehend offenders but also to deter theft, improve community safety, and hold those responsible for property crime accountable.
While we find the Criminal Code indispensable, it clearly wasn’t the score these thieves were hoping for. Nonetheless, we’d be happy to provide them with a clean, new copy should they change their mind. We’ll even giftwrap it for them – again.
