Tragic accident in Lighthouse Park

West Vancouver – the body of a 70-year-old man was located on a rocky shore area in Lighthouse Park last night.

On March 16, 2021, at approximately 7:00 pm, officers attended Lighthouse Park after park users had stumbled across personal items, including camera equipment, located at the top of a cliff area, near the shoreline.

Officers conducted an extensive search of the immediate area and, with the assistance of the Royal Canadian Marine Search and Rescue, they quickly located the deceased man at water-level.

Unfortunately, the man had succumbed to injuries, which are thought to have been caused by a 30-foot fall from the cliff.

Foul play is not suspected.

“We offer our sincere condolences to the family and friends of this individual,” says Cst. Kevin Goodmurphy. “It appears as though this was a tragic accident.”

Officers were also in contact with the BC Coroner’s Service, who later attended.
