West Vancouver – A person’s life was tragically cut short after a single vehicle collision on Highway 1 eastbound near Caulfeild over the weekend.
On March 13, 2021 shortly after 8:00 p.m., West Vancouver Police, West Vancouver Fire and rescue, along with BC Ambulance Service attended the Caulfeild off-ramp from Highway 1 Eastbound after a report of a collision.
WVPD officers arrived on the scene and located the vehicle, a 2017 Dodge Ram pick-up truck, at rest on a grass shoulder just off the pavement, approximately 200 metres up the Caulfeild off-ramp.
Despite efforts of witnesses and emergency services, who attempted to render lifesaving assistance, the driver, a 62-year-old man from West Vancouver, was pronounced deceased at the scene. There were no passengers in the vehicle.
Investigators from the Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service (ICARS) were called out and traffic was shut down for part of the evening as they conducted their investigation.
ICARS is responsible for the forensic reconstruction of collisions that result in serious injury or death.
A final determination as to causal factors will not be available until the ICARS investigation has been completed.
The BC Coroners Service attended.
“We commend the actions of witnesses who stayed on scene and attempted CPR,” says Cst. Nicole Braithwaite. “All of us at the West Vancouver Police offer our sincere condolences to the family of the deceased man. Losing someone, especially from within our community is devastating”.
