West Vancouver – WVPD officers arrested a man after he was found to be in possession of stolen property which investigators confirmed was stolen from a residence only moments earlier.

On November 14, 2019 at approximately 2:00pm, a WVPD officer observed a man board a public transit bus at Park Royal Mall without paying his fare.

During the subsequent conversation, the officer formed suspicion that the man may not have been in lawful possession of the luggage. The officer was able to gather information that helped identify a nearby residence.

Additional officers were requested to attend the residence, where they confirmed a break and enter.

The man was subsequently arrested.

Officers discovered numerous stolen household items and electronics inside the luggage (approximate value undetermined), which were confirmed to be stolen during the break and enter.

36-year-old Cesar Lopez, of no fixed address, has been charged with the following offences:

  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime sec. 354 ccc. (X1)
  • Uttering Threats to Cause Death or Bodily Harm sec. 264.1(1) ccc. (X1)

“A job well-done by everyone involved,” says Cst. Kevin Goodmurphy. “This officer was in the right place at the right time and demonstrated great proactive investigative skills.”

The accused was held in cells overnight and later released from North Vancouver Provincial Court pending his next appearance on December 4, 2019 at 9:00am, in North Vancouver.
