West Vancouver-Police arrested and later released a 21-year-old man after witnesses reported he was in possession of a handgun.
On January 13, 2020 at approximately 5:30 p.m, the West Vancouver Police responded to Park Royal Mall after store security witnessed a male taking a handgun out of his jacket and placing it into a bag.
Multiple officers attended and quickly located the male within the mall where he was taken into custody at gun point without incident. The male was found to be in possession of a replica handgun.
Upon further investigation it was determined that no criminal offence had been committed and the male was released at scene without charges.
“All weapons-related calls are taken seriously and will elicit a significant police response,” says Cst. Braithwaite. “Our police officers will treat every firearm as real until they can prove they are not.”
In this case the replica in question was almost indistinguishable from a real firearm.
