West Vancouver – One man is in custody, and investigators remain on scene in the 300 blk. of Kawtin Rd., where an overnight fire caused extensive damage to a home.
On August 23, 2020, just after 9:00 pm, West Vancouver Police along with West Vancouver Fire and Rescue responded to the 300 blk. of Kawtin Rd. for a report of a house fire.
The fire was quickly brought under control by firefighters.
With the help of witness information, a suspect in relation to the fire was quickly located nearby, and taken into custody without incident.
The house suffered extensive damage, and one resident who was home at the time, did manage to escape without serious injury.
“This is a situation that could have been much worse,” says Cst. Kevin Goodmurphy. “The alleged actions of our suspect put many lives at risk.”
The suspect, a 33-year-old man from Surrey, BC remains in custody and criminal charges will be recommended.
