The West Vancouver Police received an award from Mother’s Against Drunk Driving (MADD) for taking the most impaired drivers off the road (per capita) in the Metro Vancouver region in 2022.
Two notable impaired driving investigations in the past week showcase some of the work WVPD officers do to combat impaired driving.
On September 19th, just before 3:30 pm, WVPD received a call about a car that had driven through the children’s playground at Ambleside Park, continued onto the seawall before rejoining the roadway and striking a passing car before fleeing the park. A patrol officer spotted the suspect vehicle in the 1200 block of Clyde Ave where it had driven onto a private lawn.
On September 20th, shortly before 7:45 pm, WVPD were advised of an erratically driven motorcycle (south bound) on Highway 99. The motorcycle was followed by an astute motorist onto Taylor Way when the rider stopped, and the motorcycle fell over. A witness was able to remove the keys from the motorcycle prior to officers arriving on scene.
These drivers were served with Administrative Driving Prohibitions and have been removed from the road for 90 days. In addition, criminal charges related to impaired driving will be recommended.

The WVPD have removed 321 impaired drivers from behind the wheel in 2023.
