West Vancouver – BC Coroner’s Service are now investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a 24-year-old woman who tragically died in the waters off Whytecliff Park over the weekend.
On Saturday, September 18, 2021, shortly after 10:00 am, WVPD officers were called to the park after a report of a missing diver. Witnesses stated that they had been diving in the area and had lost contact with a woman in their group.
An extensive search was conducted in a joint operation between the Canadian Coast Guard and Royal Marine Search and Rescue.
Canadian Coast Guard rescue divers searched extensively at depths as deep as 100 feet, but were unable to locate the missing woman.
Tragically, at 5:00 pm that evening, the body of the missing woman was located in the area near where she was last scene.
“This appears to be a tragic accident,” says Cst. Kevin Goodmurphy. “Our Victim Services support workers are doing their best to help support the family and friends of this young lady.”
This incident is still under investigation, and foul play is not suspected at this time.
