● Victim responded to online ad offering rental of apartment suite. Deposit paid online lost
● Suspect claiming to be out of province realtor representing property found to be a fraudulent identity
Fraud(Attempted) – Online – Overpayment Scam
● Resident was offered payment for artwork advertised online. Suspect asked to pay for purchase with cheque for an amount more than double the agreed price, and for intended victim to forward balance to a 3rd party.
● Suspect’s cheque flagged as scam attempt by resident’s bank. Transaction halted. No loss.
Fraud – Online – Overpayment Scam
● Resident offered payment for bed advertised online. Suspect asked to pay for purchase with cheques for the purchase & funds to be forwarded to 3rd party for moving costs
● Both cheques found to be fraudulent
Fraud(Distraction) – Marine Dr/Taylor Way
● Resident offering personal accessories for sale online met buyer to conclude transaction
● Suspect showed victim cash payment, placed cash in envelope. After purchase completed, victim realized suspect had actually handed them a second envelope filed with blank papers
