CRIME ALERTS & UPDATES

Coordinator’s Update – September 5th

Good Day Block Watch Captains, Co-Captains & Participants,

West Vancouver Police have responded to 285 calls for service since our August 29th Update

Block Watch Crime Alerts for August 30th to September 5th are attached

Traffic Safety

As the first days of the school year continue, please remain alert while driving, especially in or around school or playground zones.

Extra attention by our Traffic & Patrol officers to School & Playground Zones will continue.

The speed limit in School Zones & Playground Zones is 30 km/hr. School Zones are in effect from 8am to 5pm on all school days. Playground zones are in effect from dawn to dusk, every day of the year.

Break-ins

Three residential break-ins to pass along from our Crime Alerts this week.  In the Gulf Beach area, suspects appear to have entered a home through an unsecured back door while the homeowner was away for extended travel. A vehicle at the home was stolen and recovered later in Vancouver.

Suspects entered a Lighthouse Park area home through a broken side window. Nothing of value appeared to have been stolen.  In the Lions Gate Bridge area, suspects used a ladder on site to access an upper-level window. Food was stolen.

Whether you reside in a single-family home or multi-unit building, please make a routine of reviewing security of your premises and how valuables are secured. Report any suspicious persons or activities in your neighbourhood.

Fraud

The “Fake Bail” scam resurfaced in our crime alerts this week.  Residents received call from male claiming to be their son and that he had been involved in an accident that resulted in a death. Suspect falsely claimed he needed money for cash bail and medical expenses. Unfortunately, the victims forwarded funds before victims realized it was a scam.  If you receive such a call, no matter how persuasive the scam artist may be, hang-up.  Contact the family member by a number you know they can be reached at to confirm their well-being.

Anytime you see activity of concern, please don’t hesitate to call West Vancouver Police. Call 604-925-7300 for non-emergency matters. Call 9-1-1 in an emergency, including events that involve an immediate threat to a person or property or to report a substantive crime in progress.  For updated crime alerts anytime click westvanpolice.ca/crime-alerts.
