Break-ins
If you have a home security alarm, please ensure it is well maintained, and consider setting the alarm at any time you are leaving your home, no matter how briefly. Residents of the Eastcot area returned home from an evening out to discover their home had been broken into through a sliding glass door to the primary bedroom. Multiple rooms were ransacked.
Fraud
Yet another variation of the “Bank Inspector Scam” this week. Again, a resident was contacted by suspect falsely claiming to be with security for their personal bank. This suspect claimed there had been fraudulent activity on the victim’s credit card, then asked for and was given the resident’s phone number and card pin to confirm identity for a status check. The scam was recognized only after unauthorized charges were made against the card. If a bank is contacting you regarding fraudulent activity on your credit or debit, they already have your personal and banking information and will not request you to provide it to them. If you have any concern that a person calling you is not a legitimate bank employee, hang-up, and call your bank or card provider at the number provided on the back of your card to clarify status of your card.
WVPD In The Community – Cops for Cancer Tour de Coast
WVPD Constables Christina Burnham & Dave Duncan powered their way through to a successful finish of their eight-day, 800km bicycle tour with the 2024 Cops for Cancer Tour de Coast Team.
24 riders from First Responder agencies across the Lower Mainland, Sunshine Coast, Powell River & Sea-to-Sky Corridor joined together to raise over $605,000 for Pediatric Cancer Research & Support programs of the Canadian Cancer Society.
The #TeamNorthShore effort for our West Van PD Riders with North Vancouver RCMP rider Claire Thompson contributed over $54,000 of the fundraising total! Thank you to all who supported our efforts this year! (I’m also told the Tour Team Bus Driver was very nice 😊)
