Break-ins
Please ensure you are not creating easy opportunity for thieves.
A residential break-in in the Sentinel Hill area over the past week involved suspects using construction scaffolding left unsecured n the property to climb to an upper floor balcony. Once on the balcony, suspects were able to enter the home through balcony doors left open for ventilation. Elsewhere, a residential break in in the Dundarave area involved suspects breaking in through a rear glass door and stealing possessions from throughout the home.
Some good news this week, alert residents of a multi-unit residential building in the Lions Gate Bridge area promptly reported two males trying to break into a stairwell of the building. Responding officers found and arrested one male inside the building. A second male was tracked and arrested with assistance of a Police Service Dog.
Whether you reside in a single-family home or multi-unit building, please make a routine of reviewing security of your premises and how valuables are secured. Report any suspicious persons or activities in your neighbourhood.
Fraud
The “Bank Inspector Scam” claimed another victim this week in West Vancouver. A resident was contacted by suspect falsely claiming to be with security for their personal bank. The resident asked to transfer large amount of money to another account as part of bank security test. Sadly, the money was transferred before the resident recognized it was a scam. An investigation is ongoing. Banks and financial institutions simply will not contact you in this way, or request you transfer funds in any way to take part in a security test. If you receive such a call, hang up immediately & contact police.
