Residential Break-Ins
Another family is enduring the nightmare this week of returning from a trip to find their home ransacked by thieves. The residents found an upper floor balcony door of their Cypress Bowl Road area home smashed. Several rooms were targeted for theft. High value designer purses, clothing & jewelry were stolen. No alarm was triggered.
In another residential break-in, officers were alerted by a security company reporting an intrusion alarm at a Chippendale/Finch Hill area home. Officer arrived to find suspects had fled. A rear patio door had been smashed. It wasn’t immediately clear whether thieves had managed to steal anything.
We encourage you to protect your family, your home & your possessions. The holiday travel season is fast approaching. Before you depart, take time to review security. Ensure your alarm is properly set & functioning. Have a trusted neighbour, family or friend regularly check your home while you’re away.
If you are considering an upgrade of your home security system, remember, burglary suspects will very commonly target upper floor balcony doors or windows, betting that homeowners will only have intrusion sensors on ground level entry points.
**Please review our Crime Alerts. If you become aware of an offence in your neighbourhood area, we encourage you to review your own home surveillance system for any suspicious persons or activity on your own property. Please don’t hesitate to contact Police if you note anything of interest.**
As neighbours and Block Watch participants, thank you for remaining watchful for any suspicious persons or activity, including any indication that a person or vehicle is lingering in the area for an unusual time, possibly casing or observing homes, or persons entering properties at unusual times of day or when you know neighbours are away.
Thefts From Vehicles
Leaving items of value in an unattended vehicle provided easy targets for thieves again this week. Thefts from Auto this week included either vehicles being left unsecured, or suspects smashing side windows to steal items inside.
Proactive Patrols – A Suspect In Custody
An officer conducting proactive patrols in the Marine Drive / Taylor Way area, heard a security alarm sound and observed a supect running from a store. After a foot pursuit, the suspect was arrested without incident with all stolen items recovered.
