CRIME ALERTS & UPDATES

Coordinator’s Update May 4th

Good Day Block Watch Captains, Co-Captains & Participants,

West Vancouver Police have responded to 351 calls for service since our last update.

Mail Security

Two reports of Mail Theft this week following similar reports in our last update. Reports last week involved tampering & damage to mailboxes in multi-unit buildings, both this week involved single family homes. Regularly checking & promptly clearing your mail reduces your risk of theft, with the related identity theft & fraud offences that can follow. If you’re planning to be away, plan to have family or friends clear mail or deliveries for you. Banking documents, tax related mail or other mail that includes personal or financial information will typically be targeted by offenders. If you regularly receive sensitive personal or business mail you may consider renting a post office box and address mail to be delivered there.

Warmer Forecast

Extended forecasts have daytime temperatures in our region heading for the mid-20’s over the next week to 10 days. If that has you thinking about ventilation & cooling breezes, we encourage you to ensure any home entry point left unattended is either closed & locked or has a secure secondary lock. The breeze can come in, any suspects can stay out.

eBike Patrols

As Spring heads toward summer, watch for more officers patrolling on our e-bikes. These bikes are a great tool for patrol, including park areas & during special events, surveillance, community presence & engagement!

New Officers

We welcomed four new officers to our WVPD Family this week! An experienced officer who served with Ottawa Police will join our Patrol Team immediately after orientation. Three recruit officers are headed to the Police Academy at JIBC for training beginning Monday. We’ll save more detailed introductions for another day but we welcome them to the family!

Meet WVPD Officers & Your Block Watch Coordinator

Thank you to Block Watch members getting organized for annual meetings! We encourage Block Captains & Co-Captains to meet with your group participants, either virtually, or in person at least once a year, to renew acquaintances, ensure contact information is up to date, and take the opportunity to welcome new arrivals in the neighbourhood to your Block Watch. We’re happy to join your gatherings with an update on Block Watch. We can visit in person, or touch base via MS Teams if that suits your needs better. Give me a call. Send me an email. Let’s see what we can schedule!

If you see suspicious activity or persons in your neighbourhood, please don’t hesitate to contact West Vancouver Police. Thank you for being alert. Call 9-1-1 in an emergency. Call 604-925-7300 for a non-emergency response.
