Good Day Block Watch Captains, Co-Captains & Participants,
West Vancouver Police have responded to 414 calls for service since our last update.
Chief’s Quarterly Block Watch Newsletter
Along with this week’s update, it is time for another West Vancouver Block Watch Newsletter from Chief Constable John Lo!
As we move through Summer with another seasonal increase in calls for police service, Chief Lo has advice on ‘target hardening’ your home, safeguarding items of higher value, vacant home concerns and some good news about property crime so far this year. Chief Lo’s newsletters are available in English, Simplified Chinese & Farsi. Please share these newsletters & encourage more West Vancouver neighbours to join Block Watch!
CRA Scams
Tax Season has come & gone, but the CRA scam is still hanging around. A resident responded to a text message that claimed to be the Canada Revenue Agency and demanded payment of overdue taxes. A transfer was initiated, but the intended victim realized a scam was in progress in time for the bank to place a hold on funds & prevent loss. Canada Revenue Agency assures if you have any taxes in arrears, payment will never be discussed via an uninvited text message.
Break & Enter
Break-ins reported this week included another in a seasonal cabin on Cypress. Suspects entered through a 2nd floor window. stealing camping, food & cooking supplies. Whether it’s your home or a recreational property, reviewing security before leaving your property unattended, especially for any extended period, is a must.
Thefts
Sadly, another resident facing the uncertainty & follow up required after a theft of mail. A Dundarave area resident discovered the theft in a review of home surveillance images after returning from a trip. If you’re going to be away, protect yourself by arranging for family, a neighbour or friend to clear all mail & delivery items while you’re not home.
