Construction Site Break-ins
Thieves struck two separate residential construction sites this week in the Eyremont & Pyrford areas of the British Properties. One involved entry through unsecured fencing, the other, forced entry to a locked room. Tools, fixtures, and construction supplies were stolen in each offence. Including security in your construction & site plan can be vital to reduce your risk of loss.
Theft
Officers are investigating a vehicle theft in the Pyrford area of the Properties. The vehicle was unlocked in a residential driveway overnight. One key fob is unaccounted for. We urge all residents to make a routine of checking security of property & possessions being left unattended.
A reminder for bicycle owners to review the quality of any locks used to secure your bike. This week, thieves cut a cable lock holding two bicycles to a vehicle rack in the Ambleside area during overnight hours. Another bike owner returned to find his bike stolen in the Taylor Way & Marine Drive Area, after a chain lock was cut. Many cable locks & lighter chain locks can be quickly & easily defeated with simple wire cutters. Finding a secure place indoors for overnight storage of a bicycle or using a higher quality lock can reduce your risk of loss.
Summer Impaired Driving Enforcement
Summer can bring an increase in gathering & celebration and with it the dangers posed by those choosing to drive after including alcohol or other intoxicants in their celebrations. Extra Counterattack summer enforcement campaigns are underway in West Vancouver & elsewhere across our province. In West Vancouver last Saturday evening extra duty officers took 12 impaired drivers off the road, including four drivers served 90-day Immediate Roadside Driving Prohibitions, four served 3-day prohibitions and others issued either 12 or 24-hour driving prohibitions. Extra impaired driving enforcement will continue at targeted times throughout the remainder of the summer. If your summer celebration plans include any intoxicants, please ensure you have a plan for a safe ride home.
Bear Safety
Summertime is bringing the expected increase in bear sightings & encounters in parks, open areas, and residential neighbourhoods.
Humans and Bears are both much more active outdoors at this time of year. We encourage all residents to heed the excellent advice of our volunteer partners with the North Shore Black Bear Society. All residents can help reduce risks of bear-human interactions. Remove or carefully limit any bear attractants around your home.
Don’t put garbage & compost bins out before the morning of your schedule collection day. Consider spraying your bins with strong pine scented cleaners. Ensure any fruit bearing trees or berry bushes on your property are kept cleanly picked or removed altogether.
