Good Day Block Watch Captains, Co-Captains & Participants,
West Vancouver Police have responded to 381 calls for service since our last update.
BREAK & ENTER
A reminder this week to have a regular security routine when either leaving your home or settling down for the night.
Are your doors & windows secure & locked? If you have an alarm system, is it properly set, checked & working? If you have a window open for ventilation, is it secured with a secondary lock? Have you left anything of value in your vehicle? Have you left anything unsecured in your yard that could help an offender access your home?
A residential break-in reported this week near Lions Gate Bridge appears to have been aided by unsecured doors. Several jewelry items were stolen. Meantime, a break-in to a seasonal cabin on Cypress Mountain this week involved suspects using a ladder to access a 2nd floor window. Fortunately, thieves appeared to have left without stealing anything after encountering the family dog inside.
THEFTS
It is summer. Many are planning to be away. Please ensure you are taking steps to reduce your risk of mail theft and the kind of Fraud & Identity Theft offences that can follow. A resident in the Eyremount area reported theft of mail this past week. A resident in the Altamont area found their mailbox pried open and damaged but could not be certain whether any mail had been inside to be stolen. We urge you to clear your mailbox on any delivery day. If you are planning to be away, ensure a family member, trusted neighbour or friend can regularly clear mail & delivery items for you.
PARKS & PUBLIC SPACES
Grateful for an alert community member calling quickly to report a graffiti offence in progress near the entry to Ambleside Park this week. Two suspects were apprehended in the area, with both spray paint & bear spray seized. Extra patrols of parks & public places will continue considering concerns highlighted by our communications officer last week.
If you see activity of concern, please don’t hesitate to call West Vancouver Police. Call 604-925-7300 for non-emergency matters. Call 9-1-1 in an emergency, including events that involve an immediate threat to a person or property or to report a substantive crime in progress.
