Residential Break & Enter

Two residential break-in reports this week involve some unfortunately familiar tactics by suspects.  In the Chippendale area a 2nd floor glass door was shattered to enter. Patrol officers responded immediately after the alarm was triggered and relayed by dispatchers.  Unfortunately, suspects had fled prior to police arrival.  Investigators are working with the homeowner to confirm if thieves managed to steal anything before fleeing.

In the West Bay area, suspects smashed a bathroom window to gain entry to a home while residents were out.  The break-in was discovered on their return. Thieves had rummaged several rooms, stealing jewelry & designer handbags.

Thieves will target upper floor entry points in the hope intrusion sensors are only installed on ground floor doors and windows.  A functioning alarm can help reduce loss when suspects believe police are being called to respond.

Construction Site Break-in

Crime alerts this week include a Residential Construction Site Break-in.  Crews arriving for work at a site in the Chippendale/Cypress Road area discovered suspects had entered through unsecured perimeter fencing, then broke into a temporary site office.  Tools & equipment were stolen.  If you are involved in either a new build or substantial renovation, we urge you to ensure security is part of your overall plan to reduce your risk of property loss, or lost work time following theft of tools, equipment, or supplies.

Stolen Auto Recovery

For another week, proactive patrols by officers landed accused criminals in our district in custody. Officers patrolling in the Folkestone area late in the evening initiated a stop of a suspicious vehicle. Once safely stopped, the vehicle was confirmed as stolen. A suspect was arrested. Investigators are preparing to recommend several charges. Individuals arriving in the community in a stolen vehicle are typically here to attempt further offences.
