Make Your Home A More Difficult Target For Thieves

Thieves smashed through glass doors in two residential break-in reports received this week, one in the Westcot/Hollyburn Area, the other nearby in the Chartwell/Highland Drive area.

No alarm was triggered in either break-in. The damage & property loss was only discovered when residents returned home.  We urge all homeowners to consider strategies to slow or deter criminals. Consider installation of security film to glass doors or windows that can slow or prevent offender’s efforts to break in.

Functioning residential alarms & surveillance systems with intrusion sensors on all potential entry points can help police respond, and support efforts to investigate and identify suspects.  Effective security systems can also be key in deterring offenders and prompting suspects to flee more quickly with reduced property loss.

It is a season to get away for many.  Have a friend or family regularly check your home while you’re away to ensure alarms remain functional and any delivery items that could tip suspects to your absence are cleared.

Theft

Crime Alerts this week include Theft from Auto reports from Ambleside, Chairlift Road, and Altamont Beach areas.  Offences involved both locked & unlocked vehicles and occurred in overnight and early afternoon hours. We encourage all residents to avoid leaving valuables in a vehicle left unattended for any period of time.

Anytime you see activity of concern, please don’t hesitate to call West Vancouver Police. Call 604-925-7300 for non-emergency matters. Call 9-1-1 in an emergency, including events that involve immediate danger to any person or a substantive crime in progress.  For updated crime alerts anytime click westvanpolice.ca/crime-alerts.
