Next Update

Please note, I will be out of the office after today until Monday, August 29th. Our next Block Watch Crime Alerts & Coordinator’s Update will be August 31st, 2023.

Residential Break-ins

Please check & double check that your home is secure with any security or alarm systems working and property set before you leave for any time away. A family in the upper Dundarave area returned this week to discover their home had been broken into while they were away. Cash, ID & Bank Cards were among items stolen. An unsecured entry point could have helped suspects, as no damage or indication of forced entry was found.

We also urge you to ensure any window or door being left unattended is secured. If you are leaving windows open for ventilation, consider secondary locks that allow the window to remain partially open, but secured against any entry attempt by a suspect. A suspect was found to have entered a basement room in an Ambleside home this week. Fortunately, nothing was stolen.

Residential Break-ins

Two separate new theft reports this week involving an eBike & an eScooter locked to outdoor racks near Taylor Way & Marine Drive. For more Information on Bike Theft Prevention, check our our Crime Prevention Tips Page.

Always be alert to your valuables in public spaces. A wallet left momentarily unwatched in a purse slung over a restaurant chair was among thefts reported to West Vancouver Police this week.

Fraud

Please review our summary of Fraud offences in the Crime Alerts this week. Among them, another report of someone sending a deposit for an item advertised online, only to arrive at the listed address and find the seller was fraudulent and had no connection to the advertised address.

And we are thankful for an alert family member. An Elderly victim was contacted by unknown male suspect claiming they were being tracked, demanding money, and to meet at a store for a transaction. A family member discovered the circumstance, stopped the intended victim from withdrawing any funds and contacted police.

WVPD in the Community

A very special week for youth & our Community Services Team! Twelve teens, selected from over 80 applicants are taking part this week in our annual West Vancouver Police Youth Academy.

The five-day program, led by Cst. Nicole Braithwaite & Cst. Crystal Nikolai offers a glimpse into police training & leadership skills.

Along with a taste of Police Academy & physical training, the group gets time with police & public safety partners including our Patrol & Traffic sections, the Lower Mainland’s Air One Helicopter, North Shore Rescue, Integrated Homicide Investigation Team, West Vancouver Fire & Rescue & BC Emergency Health Services.

If you see activity of concern, please don’t hesitate to call West Vancouver Police. Call 604-925-7300 for non-emergency matters. Call 9-1-1 in an emergency, including events that involve an immediate threat to a person or property or to report a substantive crime in progress.
