Welcome to West Vancouver Police Business Watch Prevention Updates.

Through this page we will regularly update you on current & emerging crime trends impacting businesses in West Vancouver, along with information on active responses by our Patrol officers, plainclothes Target Team and Major Investigations Team.

Shoplifting remains a significant concern our officers share with local business.  Shoplifting offences rose approximately 29 percent in 2023. There have been over 220 reports so far in 2024. Four of the reports involved thefts exceeding $5000 in value.

Reports have come from across the business areas in the district, however, the bulk of the reports are from the Taylor Way & Marine Drive area. Shoplifting has been a shared challenge throughout the Metro Vancouver region and beyond.

An enforcement campaign at Park Royal Mall in late 2023 targeted repeat offenders, resulting in 25 arrests over a month project. Our Patrol Teams are following that up this spring with additional targeted vehicle, foot & bicycle patrols in our commercial & public gathering areas.

The regional nature of the challenge is reflected in some of the statistics resulting from the initiative in late 2023. Of 25 persons arrested, only one was a local resident. The arrested persons had a combined total of 1000 criminal convictions.

This past week, successes again included a male observed shoplifting by retail loss prevention staff in the Taylor Way/Marine Drive area. Once safely arrested, officers determined he was also subject of a prior arrest warrant.
