West Vancouver – Impaired charges have been laid on bus driver carrying thirty-five passengers on a commercial bus from Whistler to Vancouver.
Just before 9:30PM on August 5, 2022, West Vancouver Police were contacted by one of thirty-five passengers on a Vancouver bound bus from Whistler. The passenger reported the driver appeared intoxicated and was driving erratically.
Patrol members stopped the bus in the 1300 block of the Trans Canada Highway and detained the driver for impaired driving. Police took the male back to the department to provide breath samples. The results that were obtained from the driver resulted in police recommending charges of Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle.
On October 25, 2022, Craig Randle, a 65-year-old man from Delta, was charged with the following:
Count 1: Operation while impaired by alcohol or a drug – Criminal Code section 320.14(1)(a)
Count 2: Operation while blood alcohol concentration is equal to or over the legal limit – Criminal Code Section 320.14(1)(b)
“The West Vancouver Police continue targeted enforcement against impaired drivers” said Cst. Nicole Braithwaite “In this case, we are fortunate that an alert citizen notified us to this serious public safety risk. That, combined with the quick action of our officers, resulted in the bus being stopped before a serious incident could occur”.
If you witness or suspect someone of driving while impaired, call 911 immediately.
