Residential Break-ins
Residential B&E reports in the Ambleside & Sentinel Hill areas this past week include some valuable lessons for all district residents. One suspect climbed to a multi-unit residential building balcony and was easily able to enter through an open patio door. Watches & jewelry were stolen.
In another Sentinel Hill area report, suspects again targeted a patio door, this time forcing the lock. Fortunately, in this report, nothing was found to have been stolen. From the upper slopes of Ambleside this week, a homeowner had left a key fob for the residence in a mailbox. Suspects gained access to the home. E-Bikes & a charging cable were stolen.
Please remain alert in your neighbourhoods. If you wish to have additional ventilation, ensure any patio doors or windows being left partially open are secured by secondary locks. Avoid leaving keys or fobs that to help a suspect into your home in any unsecure location.
Loan Advertising Scam
Yet another scam to watch out for. A resident reported this week they were seeking personal loan and responded to on-line loan service advertisement. The suspect requested payment by gift cards to cover service charges for the loan. The victim obtained gift cards and forwarded payment codes to the suspect before realizing it was a scam. If someone is requesting payment via gift cards, you should terminate all contact with that individual. Once gift cards are given or the payment codes on the cards are shared your funds will be irretrievably lost.
