Good day Block Watch Leads, Co-Leads & Participants,

West Vancouver Police have responded to 205 calls for service since our September 25th update.

Unsecured Property – An Open Invitation

Residential B&E and Theft reports this past week emphasize the need to review how you secure your home or valuables.  A suspect in a break-in reported from the Westhill area this week may have been able to gain access using an unsecured spare key stored outside the home.  A break-in reported in the Lions Gate Bridge area appears to have involved a suspect able to enter a single-family home through an unlocked front door.

Similar vulnerabilities were involved in some of the Theft reports in our Crime Alerts this week, including clothing stolen from an unlocked vehicle in retail parking near Marine Drive & Taylor Way, an e-Scooter stolen after being briefly left unlocked & unattended in a retail area, and a wallet, bank cards & ID stolen from an unlocked vehicle in the driveway of a home in the Eyremount / Crestline area of the Properties.

Please remain alert in your neighbourhoods.  Regularly review personal & property security measures. Please don’t hesitate to call West Vancouver Police if you notice any suspicious persons or vehicles in your neighbourhood.

Community Consultative Group – An Opportunity

West Vancouver Police are seeking volunteers to join a new Community Consultative Group.

The group is intended to provide a platform for open dialogue between new immigrant communities and your Police Department. The goal is to improve mutual understanding, address cultural concerns, and enhance policing strategies to create a safer, more inclusive environment for all residents. The group aims to enhance Cultural Awareness between law enforcement & immigrant communities, improve Policing Practices & Training to build trust & cooperation to ensure diverse communities feel safe and respected.

We are seeking 8-12 members to serve minimum 2-year terms, attending a at least 3 meetings per year. Applicants must be a newcomer to Canada (arrived within the last 10 years) and reside, work or volunteer in West Vancouver. Applicants must have knowledge of policing in their country of origin. A Criminal record check and interview required.

If you’re interested in receiving more information or starting an application, our process will start with a quick pre-screening interview by phone, followed by a more detailed application and an Integrity & Lifestyle Questionnaire (as part of the background check process). Grants under this program can provide up to $500 for projects that help bring neighbourhoods and community together.  Hosting an annual meeting of your individual Block Watch to review community safety, or to include North Shore Emergency Management for an update on emergency preparations are eligible for grant consideration.
