Suspicious Person Reports

Another effective response this week to unusual & suspicious behaviour. A resident reported an unknown male coming to their door 3 times in one evening.  On the first visit, the individual asked if they needed assistance with pest control.  During a 2nd visit to the front door, the resident was asked if they owned the home, before a final call at the door, when the suspect asked if he could come into the home and get a glass of water.  The resident declined all requests, provided no personal information, and did not allow the individual to enter their home. Police were called. Unfortunately, the suspect had left the area before officers arrived. If someone is acting in a way you consider suspicious, please don’t hesitate to call. Unsolicited sales or other calls at your door, with sudden requests by strangers to enter your home, have been associated in the past with suspects attempting to check homes for theft opportunities.

Thefts

Property crime reports in our Crime Alerts this week highlight a reminder to review security of keys or fobs.  A suspect pried open a lock box latched outside of an apartment in the Community Centre area. Keys & a security fob for the building were stolen.  Locks have been changed, and the fob deactivated, however, thieves will look for any means to gain access to homes to commit offences.

Meantime, an e-bike left unsecured in a Burley Park area carport became an unfortunately easy theft target this past week, and there were two Theft from Auto reports, involving items stolen from vehicles left unlocked.
