Emergency Preparedness Week

We are heading into Emergency Preparedness Week across Canada.  Along with our partners at North Shore Emergency Management (NSEM) we urge you to take this week to review your own personal preparations for emergencies.  Being prepared is about more than just what supplies you have.  It is about working as communities to respond to and recover from emergencies.

When disasters strike, the most immediate help may come from those around you, your neighbours.  Your participation in Block Watch can be a vital link in sharing information to help access needed services.

Community Preparedness Starts With You

If you are prepared for an emergency, you will be better able to support others.

  1. Know the hazards in our community: – From Earthquakes, Wildfire and Extreme Weather to Industrial Accidents and other hazards, understanding the hazards that are most likely to happen in our community can help you focus preparedness actions. Click Here For More Information From North Shore Emergency Management On The Known Disaster Risks In Our Area
  1. Gather your supplies: When an emergency happens, will you be ready to stay at home with an emergency kit or leave immediately with a grab-and-go bags? Click Here For Information On Preparing Home Emergency Kits
  1. Make an emergency plan for you and your family: An emergency plan prepares you and your loved ones to respond during an emergency. Having a home emergency plan will help you stay calm, connected, focused, and safe. Click Here For Information On Creating Your Own Emergency Plan

Alertable – Emergency Warning App

We again urge you to click nsem.ca/alertable/ for information about installing the Alertable app on your smart phone. North Shore Emergency Management uses Alertable to send out alerts for emergencies directly to your phone. Alertable is free to download for iOS & Android.
