Suspects broke into a home in the Sentinel Hill/Burley Park area through ground level glass doors. Similarly, suspects struck at a home in the West Bay/McKechnie Park area, smashing through an upper floor balcony entry. A personal safe was targeted with cash, jewelry and bank cards stolen. Employment & Cheque Overpayment Scams
From our Crime Alerts this week, a resident who applied for work with a company advertising online. The resident was told they had been hired, and that the new employer would send them a first cheque. Upon arrival of the cheque, the employer advised it had accidentally been filled out for a higher amount and asked for the difference to be sent back. The victim sadly discovered after returning money to the suspect, that both the job offer and the cheque were fraudulent.
Please review all Fraud types with members of your family, particularly with any elderly family members or others who may be especially vulnerable. We have attached a pdf copy of “The Little Black Book of Scams” for your information and you can check the links below to detailed Fraud Information from the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre and Canada Revenue Agency.
